My best experience from our first week of our field experience was watching how involved the students in Mrs. Ellis' second grade class were. They were so excited to learn as much as they could and they were not bashful at all when answering questions and responding to the lesson.

My worst experience from this week was when a student asked me how to spell the word "write" and I told them it was spelled "wright." Thankfully they saw the word posted on the wall somewhere and had it writted down before they caught on to my "blonde moment."

Kate Macsay -My best experience this week was definitely getting to go on the field trip to Roper Mountain!! We had so much fun getting to touch snakes and salamanders and playing with tornado tubes! I got to know the kids a lot more which was really important for me.
My worst experience for these two weeks was when I had to sit through MAP testing. It wasn't too too bad but it was extremely difficult to just sit there for an hour.

Ellie,
I love the fact that your class is so involved and outgoing! It sounds like you will be able to have a fun time with them for your field experience. Also, sorry about the "blonde" moment but I wouldn't worry too much about it:)

My best experience this first week of field experience would have to be when Ms. Lide called me up to the front of the class, handed me the promethean board pen and said, "You're teaching today." I was shocked and my first reaction was "okay!" I went up and went over their morning work and their daily math worksheet. I felt just like a teacher and thought it was so much fun!

I wouldn't say this was a "worst" experience but it was the most boring. It was my first day of field experience and it was MAP testing. I was looking forward to observing and getting to kow the students a bit, but I just talked to Ms. Lide and watched them test.

Ellie, I thought your "blonde moment" was so cute and funny! Even the best teachers in the world make little mistakes.

Kate, I can relate with the MAP testing. It was quite frustrating but it has to be done. Your field trip sounded like so much fun! I'm going with my class this Tuesday and I'm so excited!

my best experience was getting to help the kids with their journal. they all knew how to spell, for the most part. they also drew pictures to go along with their writing. one little girl, ariana, wrote about how she missed me over the weekend.
my worst experience was having to make Logan move his ladybug down for not paying attention. I felt horrible.

ellie- your blonde moment was hilarious. at least the student caught it not the teacher when she was grading the paper.

kate- I love how your kids are so involved and that you got to go on a field trip.

My best experience from our first week of our field experience was learning all about space with all the kids, and hearing all of what they know about space, like that space is black haha and one kid obiously watches discovery and had all these crazy facts about space.
My worst experience was trying to figure out how to memorize all the kids names. I know all of their faces, yet names are hard.

Ellie, I did the same thing with a kid when he asked what twelve oclock looked like. I showed him like eleven, and then he corrected the clock haha. Blonde/red hair moment

Courtney: My best experience this week was getting to know all of the children in the class. They all were so sweet and my favorite was the first day, when I was leaving, the kids yelled out "Dont leave!".. so cute.

Worst experience would be the picture day. All the kids misbehaved but i kinda dont blame them because the teachers wouldnt let them talk at all but i got to take all their pics and learn names

Kate, that sounds like fun but im a little scared of the snakes so i probably would of been freaking out haha but i used to love playing with the tornado tubes when i was younger. Im sorry your kids were testing but at least they got it over with:)

Lauren Bennett: My favorite experience from our first week for field experience was when they had a West African musician come in and teach the kids all about African culture through music. It was a really cool way to get the kids excited about their unit on Africa! As the kids walked in and saw all the instruments you could see their faces light up! All the kids got to participate by playing drums and other instruments. It was a really fun day!

I haven't really had a "worst" experience but I haven't gotten to know the kids very well because they had a test review one day and then took their test the next day so I didn't really get to do anything.
But overall I am really enjoying my field experience :)

Best experience: As bad as this sounds, the best experience I had this week was telling the class random facts about Adolf Hitler. Mrs. Sanders had me look up really unusual things about him so that the students would be interested before they learned about the boring things. It made me feel like a real teacher, but teaching all of the funny and embarassing things about him. Some of the girls said to each other "Ms. Hetzel's going to be such a good teacher" and I was SUPER excited!

As for my worst experience, it was just really awkward when the homeroom kids were introduced to me. I don't know about y'all, but when I was in middle school I hated going to homeroom, so I guess they just didn't want to be there or were crabby or something. They just didn't care about who I was and just wanted to go back to talking about boys or something.

Keilyn-- What do you mean by "move his lady bug?" Is that kinda like flipping his card? Just anything negative reinforcement? If so I am sorry! Good for you for doing it!

Lauren-- Oh my word that sounds like so much fun!

Kate-- Tornado tubes?! I'm a little bit jealous. I thought that those were the greatest things when I was in like the second grade. Still kinda do... :]

Y'alls classes seem so much fun! I'm representing the big kids...high school.I forgot to blog the first week so I'll just do a summary of the two weeks...
My best experience so far was probably when we had the tornado drill. That morning was really chaotic because Mr. Dodgens forgot he had a meeting he had to go to at like 8:30 so he locked all of the kids out of the room including me. Then he ran back to class and was trying to get all the kids situated and then about 10 minutes into class he goes "Crap, we have a tornado drill! AHHH!" Then two classes from another floor had to come into our room so our room was over flowing with kids. Meanwhile Mr. Dodgens is trying to make it a learning experience for me by telling me how when I become a teacher I have to learn how to roll with the punches and expect nothing because anything could happen like what happened that day. I was laughing the whole time because that's when I realized how entertaining and exciting this career could be.

My worst experience, well I haven't really had a worst experience yet, but a bad experience I had was when I was sitting in the back of the class and I realized o crap...that kid is in my fourth period and that kid is in my second period. I realized I would teaching kids my age, but it just made me a little nervous because I have to be a teacher one period and go to class the next and sit beside one of them as a student.

Zac- Your kids sound cute!
Hannah- You are going to be the cutest teacher ever and I am going to send my kids to you!

**PS...I am getting so much entertainment out of what students do and say to their teachers.

I have had a great first week! My best experience so far has been being able to create a flipchart for the students' morning work. Then I found out I could go over the answers with the class! It was so exciting! The students enjoyed me "teaching" just as much as I did! Their interaction and excitement was awesome! Thanks to Mrs. Turner for helping us learn how to use a promethean board :)

I hope I won't have a "worst" moment, but I have had an embarassing moment! My mom asked me to pass back some graded work, and halfway throught, I realized I didn't remember some of the students' names! I felt sooo bad! I will continue to work on remembering their names!

Ellie-I could see myself in the same situation! The students probably didn't even realize your "blonde moment."

Zac-Hopefully we can learn the students' names this week!

My best experience was laughing at how corny these middle school kids are! They tell the funniest jokes and try to be so funny. The 6th graders just look so lost but so cute (most of them at least). I am in the library and Mrs. Robertson's art class and I love being in both! They are so different but have something I like in both places. I did get to spend some time with Mrs. Batson on her birthday, too!

I agree with Hannah about my worst experience not being a typical "worst experience" because nothing bad happened, which is no fun. I have no crazy stories to tell you all! But the worst part for me is that in the library all they are doing is map testing for a while! Hopefully I will be spending more time in the art room though!

Sarah - I'm glad you did good teaching and they liked you!

Keilyn - your kids sound co cute!! I hope you have fun on the filed trip with them!

So far, my favorite part of every day is watching the way Mrs. Puckett interacts with her 'Piglets' each morning. i love helping the children with writing activities and hearing their stories about the weekend.

I haven't really had a bad experience so far. I led the children's daily calendar activity last Monday and I was so sleepy that I felt like I wasn't exciting enough - I now see why Mrs. Puckett has multiple cups of coffee each morning.

Kate, I'm glad you're having fun with Ms. Ireland's class! I'd love to go on a field trip like that with my students!

Paige, I'm so jealous that you're doing your field experience with Mr. Dodgens! He is so awesome! I know you'll learn a lot from him since he's such an amazing teacher.

Hannah! I agree with Paige! You are going to be such a cute little teacher!! I love your excitement!

My favorite thing about these past couple weeks have been getting to know my students and my class. Since I'm teaching sophomores, we haven't done any kind of fun, cutesy activities for me to blog about, so all I've really done is just observe and take roll. But I'm just so excited to be there, that I don't even mind!

My least favorite thing has been checking in hundreds of homework papers. While my students watched The Great Gatsby, Mrs. Shea had me check in a ton of old homework assignments. Not cool.

Kate,
I'm really glad you had fun on your trip to Roper Mountain, especially since it was first time going there and you got to spend a lot time with your kids!

My best experience from my first week of our field experience was taking my students' pictures. Just by the way they acted while I took the pictures let me know a little bit about them, whether they were shy, outgoing, the class clown, etc.

My worst experience was the fire drill. The kids absolutely lost their marbles. The word quiet was NOT in their vocabulary.

-Chandler

Hannah W. - You are just so cute and you are just such a "teacher." I love it so much!! You never have anything negative to say.

Kate M. - That is so exciting that you got to go on the field trip! I bet that was soooo fun! I'm sure your class really enjoyed you being there.

My best experience this week was walking into Ms. Smith's class and seeing all the students excited to see me! It made me feel so loved! Everyday they are happy to see me! They always wave and give me hugs!

My worst experience was having one of the girls in my class steal a necklace from the book fair. I didn't know 3rd graders thought to do that!! It was definitely an eye opener.

From the very first day I arrived at the class I was able to be a part of it: I was able to collect, check, and put in the grade book homework, I passed out papers, and went over homework:) It was so much fun to do all this- I really did feel a little like a teacher;) One of the more interesting things I learned was Ms. Black's way of keeping the more talkative ones quiet- she puts them on "mute". She tells them they are muted and for the rest of the class they cannot say anything! It was definitly something I never saw before and I'm still not sure what I think about it....
Well, I hope everyone had a great first week and that the rest are even better!
~Elizabeth

Hannah and Kate- Wow! Thats so great that you both get to go with your classes on field trips:) They are good rewards for having to sit through that MAP testing;)

I just looked at these while going to do this week's blog and realized that mine never showed up on here. :( I guess it won't process it from my phone. So I looked back from my journals.
Best: Getting to know the kids individually and hearing their million little stories for everything!
Worst: The teachers have to teach to the tests, even in elementary school. That really bugs me.
