Week 5 Field Experience

Sorry this post is soooooooooooooooooooooo late! - This week, I saw Leigh Anne teach the most amazing lesson about probability. She built a wonderful flipchart for the promethean board, and her students were so actively participating. Her cooperating teacher had teh most wonderful sings to say about her. Great Job Leigh Anne!

I also went to visit Chelsey at Hillcrest. What a fun experience. She has a small, but fantastic group of students who are sweet, energetic and filled with positive energy. What a great way to start her day!

But...the absolute BEST part of this week was Friday! - All of my girls were together again. It was so nice to catch up and to see everyone again. We set a date for the banquet, May 17th and are really looking forward to our field trip to the Children's Museum after Spring Break!

Happy Times!

Hey hope everyone is still doing great! My week was fantastic, I feel like I'm finally becoming more integrated into the classroom and getting to know my cooperating teacher better. My favorite moment of the week was when a boy with mild Autism who doesn't like many people and never talks to me came up and gave me a hug. It's the simple moments that matter the most!

This week has to have been one of my favorite weeks because I taught my first lesson about relationships and relationship strengths. It was very interactive, we have a lengthy talk about what makes a relationship better. Then I broke them into groups and gave each group a picutre and had them act out a scene that would be the strength of the people in the picture. Then afterwards had them talk about they had learned.

This week started out with a new student: an Egyptian boy who could not speak english and would NOT stop crying. During my full-day experience I spent most of my time with him. I finally got him to stop crying and he began interacting with some of the other students when I played with him at recess. I painted pictures with him for hours! My teacher's appreciation of me was very gratifying!

Chloe -
I ran into Mrs. Lett that day. She was in the office with that young boy and his parents. She said you were a LIFE SAVER. Could not say enough wonderful things about you.

So proud of you!

I don't really remember what I did the week before spring break since it was so long ago.. Haha. I do remember however that I did my lesson on Tuesday (I believe). It went great! The kids were willing to cooperate with me, which actually kind of surprised me. We used base ten blocks to teach them about place value.

The kids are all excited about spring break. Thats what are table discussions have mainly been about. I hope everyone is doing great! Im so sad this is almost over, it went by so quickly. I feel like it all just started. I got to do my lesson this week on social skills. It was great how well all of the kids paricipated. They all needed to bring in 5 things that were important to them and explain to the class what those things meant to them. Then I
had them explain thier favorite moment at special olympics. I had such a fun full day with many great experiences.:)

Like Chloe, I also spent my full day with my kids this week. It was so exhausting, yet really fun! We did a craft and made little birds out of Easter eggs. They were adorable. Then Makalah came up to me, gave me a big hug, and asked me to take her home with me. Kate's right; the simple moments do matter the most.

Gosh! I can't believe we are almost done! I'm going to miss my kids. They are excited to be in high school next year and I shared some of my experiences and told everyone where I plan on going to college. It made them want to work harder in math because they understood that their grade would carry over. I feel like I'm being a good model for them. :)
