Week 4 Field Experience

Well, this week did NOT start off well... for me anyway.... I spent Mon-Wed fighting the stomach flu. When I was back and kicking on Thursday, I found my way back to Mauldin Elementary School where I finally got to see Dru with her cutie-pie kindergarteners. She was busy helping small groups work on writing the letter "N." On my way over to see Kate, I saw Alex reading a story to her second graders. As I was snooping, I think it was about the salty oceans coming from soneone's tears??? - That's what you get when you just "eavesdrop." I got to see Kate work one-on-two with two of her young second graders who needed special help while the rest of the class was MAP testing. On my way out, I saw Meghan reading in the hall with a little friend, and I spied Allison working in the library with another little friend. - What a great visit from afar! Friday took me to Sara Collins Elementary where I saw Mrs and Miss Renwick teaching Kindergarten. It was hard to tell which one was the "real" teacher. Elizabeth - you are such a NATURAL in the classroom. It was GREAT!! and then.....oh boy oh boy oh boy.... I got to sing the "What are you wearing song!" Yippee!!

This week was pretty good. I got to work with some of the upper level students which was a big change! They didn't really need my help they just wanted to talk to me! I also spent alot of time planning my lesson on Monday with Mrs. Murphy. Can't wait!

This week was GREAT! I taught my leasson to my class on feudalism and they had alot of fun. I split them up in groups of either serfs, peasants, nobles, knights, and a king. The kids were very respectful and actually cooperated with me and we also made a code of arms where they were to tell the claass their greatest accomplishment, whats most important to them, favorite vacation spot, and what they want to d when they grow up. it gave me a chance to get to know them better and they also got a chance to better know me!

This week was a great week! My class is so awesome!! Ms.Owen allowed me to sit in on an IEP meeting, which is a formal meeting for kids with special needs. It is a meeting between the teacher, the student, the students regular ed teacher, the students parents and the assistant principal. its where they all go ver the students previous years goals in academics and life skills and then they go over their current progress and their future goals. This meeting trul opened up my eyes and showed me more of what I am dedicating my life too.

I had another great week in Multi-Age! The best part was being able to lead the "warm-up" math activity. When the kids understood what I was teaching them, I had a great feeling!

This week was yet again great! My favorite experience would have to be on Wednesday. They were supposed to have kick ball outside with the older class, but since it was raining we all went into a classroom and played just dance. It was PRICELESS! All the kids were getting so into it (even I was). It was one of the little boys in the other class birthday so he got to pick all the songs. So cute!

On Monday I got to go on a field trip to the children's museum! I was a chaperone and walked around with a couple of the boys. It was such a great experience, I cannot wait to go back with our pen pals. It's so tiring though!

This week was fun. I got to engage with the students by reading them a story. I forgot how much seven and eight year olds like to talk! I felt bad for them when they got in trouble for talking, but I guess they have to learn sometime. I also met with Mrs. Kilgore on Friday to talk about plans for the lesson I'm teaching Tuesday. I hope it goes well!

I had a great week! One day I came in and the kids were starting their math test on everything they've learned since I've been there. I was sent to the library with my special little friend who is easily distracted to make sure he stayed on task and understood directions. His behavior was outstanding! He finished so quickly, and even though he made a few mistakes he mostly knew what he was doing. It was so exciting to see, and I left that day feeling really invigorated. I was so proud of him!

This week was great! It was a busy week and I did a lot of "teacher work" such as grading papers and making posters. My teacher has been doing national board stuff so I was glad I could help her not stress out as much, and get things done for her that she needed. The highlight of my week was when one of my girls, Kaydence told me that she made her mom braid her hair and she took it out so she could have curly hair like me. It was adorable! I also was bombarded with questions when Mrs. Foster told the class I was going to prom this weekend!

I love teaching, I get to do so much and the kid really listen to me. Almost everyday they ask me if I am going to stay for the whole day and unfortunatly I have to tell them no. I love being in the classroom and helping the kids. They are all really smart even if they act up. Most of the time though they are really well behaved and I am proud of them. When the teacher was out unexpectedly this week I just took over the morning routine for the sub and everything went smoothly. I look forward to teaching for real and getting paid to do something I love.

This week was a lot of fun. On Monday, I went with the kindergartners to the Children's Museum. They tuckered me out! Drew, who is generally a rather rambunctious and talkative child, refused to leave my side. He held my hand throughout the museum, and on the way home he fell asleep on my lap. He is such a sweetheart. Ms. Hull told me he has never been so well behaved. I agree with Chloe that it was very tiring, but exciting.

This week was good, I got to observe in the lower elem classes. This allowed me to see how the classes are run differently at Five Oaks depending on grade level-I was amazed at how well the first graders were able to read and write.

I haven't had a bad week yet! I love the kids in my class! They always look forward to when I'm teaching and it makes me feel great! The kids feel comfortable enough to ask questions. I was surprised when kids volunteered to answer questions. Oh I almost forgot to mention, one of the boys in my class is on the track team with me. One day at a meet, he came up to me and asked for some help and I was glad to give it! It felt great that he asked for help outside of class! He ended up doing great on his quiz the next day! Looking forward to next week!
