Week 3 Field Experience

Yet another great week! Monday, I made my rounds through Mauldin Elementary School. I listened to the morning warm-up with Maddy's kindergarten class and watched her cut out spoons for their healthy food pots. Then, I sang "Rise and Shine" with Chloe's kindergarten class. She has an adorable class who clearly loves her. She also has a neat hidden office where found her working hard.

I found my way to the third grade hall where I discovered Cortney teaching (by herself). I was so proud of her! Her teacher had slipped out to the restroom, but Cortney didn't miss a beat. The class was fully engaged. I then ventured over to the second grade hall and found Alex helping out with morning work. - What a great way to spend the first day of the week. On Tuesday, I drove out to Bell's Crossing. Miriam's teacher was absent, so she took over the morning .... like a pro. She went over homework, and then watched a video with Bryan the Science Guy. Miss Berry looked more like the teacher than the sub! Most impressive! Wednesday was an adventure in high school land. I visted Surena at JL Mann and her class of Freshmen Global Studies. Interestingly, the boys sit on the left side of the room, and the girls on the right. Surena did a bell-ringer (tough one) with the class and then gave them directions for a one-page reflection essay. Thursday took me over to Hope Academy where I met Katie's class. She was working with a small group and introduced me to her class. I also met Michael, our hero from Spirit Week. We moved to the music class where I had wonderful flashbacks with Whadalee Atcha (however you spell that) and playground hand games - now called Tic Tac To. Such a GREAT morning! Friday - well - I'm off to Sue Cleveland! I found Jessica hiding in the reading corner bouncing on the seaty balls! ;-) I met several of her students - especially the sweet one with a crush on her. I then watched her lead a mini-lesson about the alligator chomping on "greater than" numbers....very sweet!

This week has been great! I did more working with small groups, and I also graded papers and hung up work in the hallway. It's exciting to see the kids finally getting comfortable with me. I've been getting lots of hugs this week, and they are no longer afraid to come up and talk to me.

I just love my class. I went over I know all the kids names now and am really exited to continue teaching and working with them. On Friday I joined them on thier field trip to Walnut Grove. It was tons of fun. They made candles and took a tour of the old houses there. You can see pics on my personal blog http://miriamslifeasastudentteacher.blogspot.com/

This week my primary focus was on helping a student in my class, Charity, work on her letters and sounds. I was instructed to use flash cards but after a few rounds I could tell she was getting antsy. I took the liberty of attempting to be more creative, so I took her on an obstacle course (jungle gym outside). I would hold up a letter and if she said the right letter/sound she was allowed to move one step through the course. Just by the end of one week I could tell she has improved so much! It is such an amazing feeling to believe that you have made a difference in someone's education! Hope everyone is doing well!

This week was great! I'm really comfortable with my teacher and my class, and I am having a ton of fun! We did a lot with money this week, which I think is such a fun lesson, but it's a pretty hard concept for the kids to learn. I did a lot of small group activities with this. My favorite activity of the week was learning about categories. We all took a nature walk outside and when we got in we made categories and put things that we saw or heard outside in them.

Another great week! A lot of my kids have been in and out with field trips... the good old days when you could have multiple field trips and not worry about the work load when you came back. Luckly on Thursday we had a full class and were able to review for a test the next day. They took a test on material I taught them. I am so excited to see if they actually learned. In the begining of the year I was not thinking of teaching as an option, but this field experience has really opened my eyes to how much joy teaching can bring. I'm sure next week will bring even more smiles!

This week was pretty fun. I've been spending time every day helping some of the kids in my class learn their multiplication tables. It's a big reality check to realize I don't even know all of them myself. It's been really rewarding to see the kids' improvement!

This week my teacher finally let me interact with the students haha. I got to work with a small group two separate days. I also was told that the kids don't like for me to leave, they wish I could be there all day. I'm guessing they will be really happy when they realize I get to stay for a whole day. Oh, I also was informed that two girls in my class love Justin Bieber, and they WILL marry him haha.

What another great week at Hope! I can't pick a favorite experience because every day has been one. I became a lot more involved in the teaching part and got to give a spelling test and grade papers. My favorite thing is getting to work with the individual students and help them. I have grown to known each and every student more and more. My highlight of the week would have to be music on Thursday where I got to participate and learn the hand shakes they were learning. It was so much fun and Mrs. Turner got to be a part of it too! I also got to watch them play kickball which was PRECIOUS. They were all so into it and I really enjoyed seeing their team work. Love, Katie

I really enjoyed this week! I went on a "Day Out" with my class where we went to Stax Omega for breakfast, and then went bowling at Starlanes. I got to really got to know a group of girls that I ate with and the kids got a good laugh of how badly I bowled. Then I spent Thursday and Friday in the Lower Elm. part of Five Oaks because my teacher left for Spain, a little girl Lily read a book about the life cycle of chickens to me without any help (and she is only six). A group of girls had me read "Say Hola to Spanish" to them. Friday I observed the class during their related arts, where they learned the days of the week and sung songs in Spanish, and they learned about Spring in their science class.

3rd week was a success!! I get more and more excited as I build a different relationship with a new student each week, they seem to be warming up to me more and that is exciting. I got to enjoy learning how to go on a bear hunt this week with my kids (it is one of there favorite interactive songs). We crawled and sang around the room it was tuns of fun.

This week was awesome! I am liking field experience so much! Interacting with the kids is by far my favorite part. I already know the kids in homeroom and in first period it is now a little bit tricky because they all switched seats. On friday I did alot. I taught my first lesson. Although is wasn't a full blown lesson (just an introductory one) I still loved it. I can't wait to see what else is in store! :)

Im so sorry this is a few days late. Last week was great! I got to go on a CBI fieldtrip with my class. We went to the Simpsonville Library, the Post Office and Bojangles. The fieldtrip was to help them with their social skills: how to order at a resturant and to learn how to find and check out books along with how the mail system works. I Love my class!!!

This week was so fun! One day, I was reading a book to the class, and little Zykerion said "that dress is beautiful!" I looked at the picture of the little girl dressed up as Cinderella and said "yes, she looks very pretty there." Then he replied, "No! I meant YOUR dress." What a little charmer! Like Kate, I've had a lot of fun working in small groups, grading papers, and doing various odd jobs for Ms. Hull.

This week my school was on spring break, I stayed at MHS and went to Mauldin Montessori one day. It was interesting to see how the two schools compared.
