Final Weeks of Field Experience

These past two weeks, I have been all over the place....and what a joy it has been. I am so proud of ALL of my young ladies. I had the priviledge of seeing Cortney teach a wonderful lesson on South Carolina symbols. It was really neat to see her practice lesson put into the "real" classroom. Excellent work!
I visited Kareen at Bethel, and she was teaching prepositions of place with three dimensional shapes while playing "Simon Says" at the same time! The kids LOVED IT!I made my way over to Mauldin Elementary, and spied on Chloe working with a small group of advanced kindergarten students. They were "playing" BINGO with site words.

Somewhere in the midst of it all, we took a FANTASTICALLY FUN trip to the Childrens Museum of the Upstate with our pen pals. What an exhaustingly fun day!

In the last few days, I had the pleasure of taking a class photo with Alex and her fun little 2nd graders.

I also got to see Maddy teaching kindergarteners a math lesson about subtraction. She read a book about Froggy going to camp. Then, the kids drew a pond with grass on a big piece of paper. Maddy told "mini stories" about how many frogs were in the pond - and then jumped out. The kids reinacted the story with their drawings to learn subtraction!

Finally, I visited Kate in the library where she was working with a small group of students using whiteboards to review math concepts. Such a natural teacher!

I can't believe it's all over! I'm so sad. Every day this week was tinged with a bit of sadness leading up to my last day. I did my lesson and helped Ms. Hull with various things. On the last day, Ms. Hull presented me with a gift, and each of my little friends came up to give me a hug. I had to keep myself from crying! I hope everyone had a fantastic field experience, and I can't wait to talk with everyone Monday.

This week was one of my favorite weeks! I enjoyed getting to see Megan and Kameron play and explore in the Children's Museum. Megan was so cute, she came up to me before we left and gave me a black and white sock monkey, and told me she wanted me to have it just because. I also enjoyed getting to see my kids at Five Oaks conduct a book group about a story they had been reading over the past two weeks.

I can't believe our field experiences have come to an end! I loved every minute of my time in second grade and will definitely be going back to visit my friends in Mrs. Gemmel's class. I really enjoyed being able to work with small groups of the high achievers in math the last few days. It allowed me to get to know those students on a deeper level, and see how they learn compared to the lower down sweathearts I usually work with. They all want to be first to answer which is hilarious. I hope everyone had as much fun as I did!

I'm so sad! Everything is over. I want to go back and visit! The class surprised me with a giant card! One of the students wasn't there on my last day so he left me a giant note on the board. I miss them all so much!
