Field Experience Week 5

Hi Everybody -
I can't believe there are only 3 weeks left in this experience! I have LOVED visiting all of you. I look forward to more. Don't forget to report to Mauldin High tomorrow (April 12 and 13th) Final Exam papers for Anderson are due on Tuesday, April 13th.

This week, I visited Kirsten at Hillcrest Middle School. She taught a rock lab! We learned about various shapes of prisms and how they mimic minerals in the Earth

I also visited Kathryn at Hope Academy. She teaches a small - cute - cute - cute classroom of 6th grades. Her lesson revolved around measuring lines and pieces of lines.

Finally, I visited Kenzi here at MHS as she taught Elizabeth Barret Browning's Sonnet "How do I love thee....let me count the ways!

This week, I got to read my class a story of Greek mythology. I'm not a fan of Greek mythology, but I did well with leading a discussion on the selection. It was pretty dope that I could relate it to hip-hop... haha. It's so funny... these kids think my breaking (breakdancing) is cool. :P w00t.

I graded more composition notebooks of poetry, and upon reading a few of them, I realized how deep these middle schoolers are. There was one journal where a student wrote this incredible poem about his mom's death, and another where a student wrote about what sort of things go on at her house. It concerned me... but it definitely made me see, again, that middle school is where I'm supposed to be as a teacher.

So, my worst experience was this one day where I sat the entire class doing nothing... and my best was teaching another lesson.

I love my kids... haha.

This week I got to explain a little about how Hitler made his speeches during WWII. That was probably my favorite part of the week in the class room. But my absolute favorite was seeing the middle school play Guys and Dolls. My disappointing part of this week was that I didn’t get to start teaching parts of the lesson because of some conflicts with schedules and other conflicts. ~Natalie Terlitsky

This week the student teacher in my class started her full five days of teaching. It was fun to help her out still and to see a different perspective from a real teacher. I really liked watching the students make a quick four minute presentation in twenty minutes, some of them got creative. I didn't have anything bad happen this week. Victoria, that sounds really cool to read a story of Greek mythology, i must say that i am a fan of that stuff! haha!

Victoria, I loved that you realted your story to hip hop and break dancing. That's awesome! This week I taught a lesson on Elizabeth Browning's Sonnet 43. That was definetely the best part of my week. But the worst part was working on my teacher interviews and the paper that goes along with it. I hope everyone had a good week! And don't forget about the paper!!!

my best experience this week was when this Issac got so excited to tell me he got to 200 points on reading counts. his new goal is 300. my worst experience was when this cute little girl Elizabeth who i have worked with for two years asked me if i was going to 2nd grade with her next year and she was very sad when i said i wasn't. :(

This week was awesome. I could tell my kids were still tired from Spring Break though! The week went pretty smooth. Nothing really stood out. I did however have a bad experience:( One of the kid's mom has been given three months to live due to cancer. How awful. Keep that family in your prayers!

The best part of this week was coming back from spring break on tuesday to the class and having fun talking with them and seeing what all everyone did. It was weird not being in class with them for a whole week.
The worst moment of the week was actually grading their command test. Becuase they always say they know what they are doing but in the end they do not know it all and so as the tests showed. They did not know it very well and their grades suffered.

Last week was crazy. Ms. McKee was so stressed about grading things, cutting things out, and field trip information that needed to be turned in. Plus a wedding in less than a month. So I was glad to be there to help. I filled out a bunch of field trip info and graded as many things as I could. My best moment from last week is when Ms. McKee brought me coffee, I felt legit. The worst moment was having to clean out a big container full of posters.

My favorite part of this week was reading different books to my class. It made me remember how when I was younger I would read books outloud and pretend I was a teacher who was reading to a class. It made it a kind of surreal experience. My least favorite part of this week was when a group of boys started to misbehave because Mrs. Lichoulas left the room, but I quickly handled the situation and they listened quite well.

for some reason my comments never post when I first do them! Last week was great I was able to help the kids out with their morning work a lot more and I even did some of their morning exercises with them. One day this kid brought in a plastic bag with a butterfly and a live spider he had found at home! When the teachers aid found it she screamed! It was really funny we ended up letting the spider go I'm just glad I wasn't the one who found it!

This week was great!! Although we only got to go for 3 days, I enjoyed teaching the DOL , and cutting hand prints for Ms. Flinn. When I left on Wednesday, all the students got out of their seats to give me a hug. :) It was adorable. The one downside so far is that I haven't really gotten to do alot of teaching..only the DOL's. Heheh..Tough this doesn't relate to my field experience..I saw McKenzie at Brusters on Wednesday. It was so nice to see her..plus her little bro was cute. :)

Hey This week one of my favorite moments was that I got to explain some information about Hitler to my class. It was fun to be able to explain a part of History that I personally enjoy learning with my 7th grade class. My disappointing moment was I missed seeing my students project presentations. I was gone Friday on a College visit, which was fun, but I think that would have been a great experience. Fortunately they will be continuing them on Monday and I am excited to see that. On Tuesday I plan on teaching a whole day on the Holocaust. This will be a great experience but a challenging subject. Hope all is well

the best part of my week was that i got to clean out my teachers fish tank ha, the whole class got involved and it was a class experience.
the worst was that i had to disipline someone! his name was drew, and i felt awful. but i had to be stern!
and natalie you liked teaching about hitler? that would make me sad, ha. but i'm very glad you had a good week!

This week was pretty good. My good experience was making a bulliten board with Lorena! It turned out so pretty! We put up the flowers that we made with our pen pals on pen pal day in Miss.Quinn’s room mixed in with dye-cut flowers and a huge tree at the end. It was so cute. Even a lady walking by complimented it! My worse experience was having to talk to one of the students about using the phrase “I can’t do it.” I told her that something is only impossible if you don’t try and just wait for it to do it self. Her problem was either asking me what each word was in the book or telling me that she couldn’t sound-it-out. But besides that I had good week. And, Kirsten, I think cleaning out a fish tank would be my worst experience! Haha!-Shay Davis

This week I got to spend my entire day at my school. It was great and I actually taught about the Holocaust for my whole day. I used the line game from the Freedom Writers to allow the students to relate things that they all experienced (bulling, teasing, ect) to the initial parts of the Holocaust. I also used a movie clip and played a quick draw game with them. It was a hard subject to teach, but I enjoyed the experience so much. My only negative or semi-weird experience would be when I began to teach in one of the later classes and forgot for a moment if I had already taught them certain parts of the material, since I had already done it for so many periods. It was crazy and I could not explain how strange it felt to feel like I had already said something, but in reality had not said it at all.
Hope everyone had a great prom 

Natalie that activity from the Freedom Writers movie sounds really cool. I bet it was a neat experience. This week for me went by quickly. The best thing about this week was that was that I got to spend 3 hours in the class and play games the whole time because of testing. The worst part of this week was the HSAP testing. It lasted through Thursday. So I only had one normal day of school. But it is okay; it could have been worse. I Hope everyone has a good week!

This past week I got to help my French 4 class about the various regions in France. This was without a doubt my favorite part of the week because I really enjoy French geography and culture. My least favorite parts of last week was the schedule changes. They changed the order of classes every day at Southside Christian and it was really hard to keep up with

Hey
This last week was amazing. I was able to do most of the things that I wanted, like create a quiz, copy papers, and help initiate activities, ect. The most amazing experience was my last day, when my students and teacher surprised me with a huge cake, card, and handbook of how to be a great teacher. I was so touched. I brought them smarties to make them smart, and they enjoyed those as well. The students in my class and my teacher were amazing. This was a great experience and the negative experience was leaving them.
