Field Experience Week 2

Hi Everybody

I hope you are still enjoying working with your classes and your cooperating teachers. I have really LOVED watching you all teach. I am so proud of the things you are doing. This week, I got to see Kirsten teach the "opening activity" for Ms. Goldsmith's science class. We learned about earthquakes and an old chinese urn that people historically used to determine the size and location of an earthquake. Apparently, the urn had little balls all around the outside. They would determine the direction and seriousness of the earthquake by which ball fell - and how far. Hmmmmm! ;-)

Then, I visited Kim. She has the cutest little first grade class. They were in a reading group working with their teacher, so Kim got to file papers and organize all of her studnets' folders. - Yes, it's a part of teaching too! ;-)

Back at the high school, Kenzi was also hard at work in her English class grading papers!

Finally, I closed out the week visiting Senor Jose and Ms. Larrain's Spanish 4 Honors class. He taught them a wonderful song by Aventura called Un Segundo Mas. Be sure to leave your comments about YOUR best and worst thing that happened this week. Don't forget we will visit our pen pals next Friday March 19th!

To Lisa, it sounds like you had a lot of fun. I bet it was really fun to teach those little kids the message of the day. For me, the best thing that happened this week was seeing a four minute funny clip of Huck Finn so the class can see it in a different way. It was also different to see them starting to learn how to get the information they need for a research paper. Once again I really didn't have a bad thing that happened this week. We have even decided that I am going to do my lesson after spring break on the next book they will be reading which is The Great Gatsby.

This week was fun, even though I went to my site when I was not supposed to, later on that week my teacher didn’t need me so I actually got to go for the same amount of days as everyone else. My favorite experience was to monitor a group of my students as they practiced a play that depicted the leaders creating the "League of Nations." Some of the students spoke with accents and they were all very cute. I have been having a great time but the negative part would be that I have to rush to leave and make it back on time. I'd rather be able to have more time interactive with the students. Also, I was able to grade papers. It was hard to see that some kids just do not care about school and that there is a large difference between the grades of those who care and do not. It was a little sad but also encouraged me to want to motivate students to do better.

My worst experience this week was seeing Cameron have to stand outside for something he clearly didn't understand why it was wrong and that it was impossible for him to understand at his age. The most amazing thing did happen, though. The same boy who I used to call the little demon child of the class decided to work with me once I tried some different techniques with him. I went in with a positive attitude and he did all of his work, which is very rare for him. That was earlier in the week. On Thursday we were setting up for their science fair and he said to me "I really hope you get to come!" I went on Friday to the science fair, which was in the evening, and was able to meet his parents. I introduced myself and Cameron said "She's like my math tutor!" and I went to explain I really wasn't and he said "Well I family wants to find a shadow for me! Couldn't you be my shadow for free or a dollar a day or something?" His parents and I explained that I had school for four more years and he said "Well I wish time could skip for just one person so you could be done with school and be my therapist now!" I had never been so touched before. His parents even said "He has never said anything like that to anymore before. That is a great compliment." I love him so much. :)

My week was not the best but not the total worst. The best thing that happended to me was that i really got to interact in front of the class for the first time. It was good to actually be in that position. The worst thing that happened to me was not being able to teach my lesson because i forgot set my alarm clock. Fail. But its okay i will make it up :) And Natalie don't worry about going to your site when you didn't need to cause a bunch of people the same thing. I hope everyone has a great week and is on time ;)

My week was fine. The coolest thing about the school, the children get to do workouts after the announcements.A trainer comes on television with students and they do workouts. Its funny watching the kids keep up with the television.I have got into a normal routine with the children. I went on a field trip with the class to Roper Mountain Science Center,it was fun. It reminded me of the numerous times. I went with my elementary school.(BETHEL) I really enjoy this class.

Kenzi- The time change threw me off too so don't feel bad. and Lisa- That storyteller was so good! The kids were all so interested in what he was saying! My best experience this week was getting to make pancakes with Mrs. Quinn’s class! (I have pictures if you want to see them. Plus I’ll probably put them on facebook haha) It was so much fun and the kids had a lot of fun. Mrs. Quinn’s class is going on a field trip to Whole Foods in April so I can’t wait. The field experience is so much fun! Lorena and I hate when we have to leave.

My second week of field experience was lots of fun. This week I learned all the different "buenos dias" songs according to grade level. My favorite day was Thursday because we had a PARTY!
If the class follows the rules each day on the rules chart, they earn a star. Once they collect twenty stars, they get to PARTY! We celebrated with chips and salsa, and watched Magic School Bus. I didn't have a bad experience this week.

This week was fun. The best part was just getting to interact a little more with the kids. Helping them with their work and getting to know them a little better each day. The worst part of the week would just be that I had to miss 2 days of field experience because of Advisory and one day I was absent.

Kathryn- I think that's so sweet that he said that to you! What a cute kid! My week was great! My best experience was when Mrs. Sebree announced to the kids that I was going to go over the early work with them. I had no idea! I really hadn't had much interaction with them before that except for helping them with their classwork once or twice if they needed it. I was so nervous! It ended up going great, though, because the kids were excited that I got to interact with them and after going over the early work, I played a really fun flash card game with them called "Ready, Set, Go." I didn't really have a bad experience this week except for on Friday because there wasn't much for me to do.

This is philip!! my week was pretty good! we had a test tuesday on supply and demand and everyone was freaking out about it and it ended up that everyone did fairly well on the test. they had touble actually drawing the graphs for supply and demand. this week was good for me i am getting to know my classroom and students! nothing too bad happened except for some almost fights between some girls but no worries mrs. fuller made sure to get back on subject for the girls to forget about it. Kenzi no bueno for forgetting to set your alarm!! hopefully you won't forget the next time you plan on teaching!

Okay, I don't know why the blog wouldn't let me post last night... so I'm having to type this at school. Grr. ANYWAY...

Congrats, Kathryn! I'd heard your stories about the "demon child," and it's good that the two of you are finally getting along! :)

My worst experience this past week was my failure at using the copy machine. Mrs. Richardson had me make 90 copies of a worksheet, but she'd given me the wrong password to do so. After getting her right one from the office and help from a couple of teachers, I couldn't find any paper. Yep, she'd forgotten that, too. So, I went back to her room to get the paper, and I interrupted a kid reciting "Annabell Lee." That was embarrassing. At the end of the period, I delivered the copies. Absolutely dreadful that it took me God knows how many minutes... but at least I can work the copy machine now.

My best experience was getting to go over the worksheet with them, and when Mrs. Richardson told the class before I left that the next week I'd be teaching them "The Raven." I was surprised but SUPER EXCITED!

Have a good week, folks.

This past week was very chill. Nothing too bad went on but the best part was seeing the girl I helped outside of class get a 93 on her quiz. She was excited, I was excited and we both did a little dance. Mrs. Cecere gave me some things that she is going to let me do next week and I'm pretty scared but I hope it will go fine. Kenzie don't forget to set your alarm clock anymore because those children need to know how awesome you are!

This past week wemt pretty well. I've been interacting a little bit more with the students and I know all of their names now!! yay! :) I noticed for the first time I had twins in my class. I guess I never really knew before was because they both sat on opposite sides of the room. Mrs. Pea told me that I could probably start going over the DOL's with the students so that made me really happy! Something I noticed the kids love to do after ther DOL is to read. I get really excited when they pull out a magic tree house book becuase I used to read those in elementary school too!

I had fun this week..This was the week that i had to teach my lesson, and it was the best experience i have had with younger students. Its one thing to teach a lesson to my peers, but to teach a lesson to kindergarten students its soo much fun! The kids were excited about the activity on seasons, and they completed their assesment very fast. This week has taught me alot, now im starting to use my discpline tools. Sometimes the students talk while im doing the calendar and i have to stop and wait until everyone gets quiet. Or sometimes i have to tell a student to go have a seat at his desk, while i continue teaching. Its been a very good week and i always learn something new every week!!

My best experience this week was visiting my teacher for the entire day. It allowed for me to see what the real day and life of a teacher is like. It is not easy...There is alot of running around that you have to do and preparation for the next class expecially during the planning periods. The worst experience of the week would also have to be the same day, the full day experience because although it was good to see what teachers have to go through in just one day, it was very stressful to experience all of the running around and chaos that teachers have to go through on a daily basis in order to prepare for the next class period. However, I was invited to go to the Spanish Club that same night and that was fun because myself and some of the students that she teaches watched a movie in her room in Spanish about Argentina since we had been talking about Argentina throughout the week.

My week was pretty good. They took their school pictures Monday. And they had a story teller come in Thursday. That was a lot of fun. He was really good. The kids really had a blast. But Friday had to be my favorite part of the whole week. Friday, when Mrs. Puckett was done with the "calender" lesson, She told the kids that I was going to be doing the "message" for the day. It really shocked me. I had no idea she was going to get me to do it. But it was so much fun. The kids really listen to me. I really liked it. I didn't really have a bad experience this week. Although there is one kid that is always giving Mrs. Puckett a hard time. She is always complaining about something. She talks back a lot to. But other then that, everything is great.

Im a little late, but its cool. My worst experience this week was probably when I had car trouble of Thursday. My best was playing the name game in French 1. They seem excited to have me, which is a surprising response from a high school class.

My second week was pretty good, my favorite part was teaching a lesson on figurative language, even though I didn't know I was doing it until right before! My least favorite part was teaching a lesson when Mrs. Holcombe wasn't there, they were so distracted and the questions were confusing! I love my class, I just wish my teacher would let me know in advance what I'm teaching so I could make it more fun and actually feel like I'm teaching.
