Mauldin High Teacher Cadets said...

Teacher Cadets Blog
Week of 9/24-9/28

Monday

The first thing that we did on Monday morning was go to a dreadful senior meeting. This meeting was actually relatively exciting though because Mrs. Miller spoke and for many of us, that was one of the very few times we have seen her in our years at Mauldin. Then, Mr. Roach and Mr. Cummings talked to us about respect, IDs, cell phones, and tobacco and littering fines. I found it really funny that the fine for smoking is $101.88 and for littering it is $1035. Also, I would really like to know where the $101.88 came from because it is a really odd amount. Once the meeting was over, we went to Mrs. Turner’s class. Here, Mrs. Turner explained the high pot that we were supposed to put in people’s pots and she gave us index cards that we were to cut out and write the positive messages on. She also told us that the Hillcrest Teacher Cadets really enjoyed the awesome puppet show that Kasie G, Cassie, and Kristen put on for the Sue Cleveland students. Also, she informed us that Hillcrest will be working with us on fundraising activities this semester and we are going to meet the Hillcrest Teacher Cadets at the Barnes and Noble in November, where we will pick out books for our pen pals. I’m very excited about this! Then, Sarah shared the blog from the previous week.

Tuesday

On Tuesday, Mrs. Turner started the class by reading a very nice note from one of the Hillcrest students. Afterwards, she handed out the “left over” pen pals. Also, we discussed our learning styles and multiple intelligences assignment that we worked on in the yearbook room. I thought it was really cool to see the different surveys and results for each. Also, it was interesting to see how different everyone’s learning style is. According to the surveys, I am pretty well-balanced. I got around the same score on everything in the surveys and for the last one that was hard to read, I got 1---1 on everything. Mrs. Turner told us that we would be going to Pocketful of Miracles on Thursday so I was really excited about that!

Wednesday

On Wednesday, Mrs. Turner shared a great letter that Daniel wrote to the Hillcrest Teacher Cadets. We talked about going to Pocketful of Miracles some more and Mrs. Turner told us that Friday we would begin watching The Gridiron Gang. I was happy about that because I wanted to see that in theatres but I never got the chance. Then, we went over the third online survey because it was pretty difficult to understand the results. Afterwards, we discussed our class t-shirt design. Originally, we were going to go with Madison’s design but we decided upon Angela’s idea instead. The shirts will be the Teacher Cadet green with white writing and drawings. It will say “It’s not turrets…. It’s Teacher Cadets!”

Thursday

Thursday we met at Pocketful of Miracles. Well, we were supposed to be there at 8:30 but only half the class was there then. CJ, Daniel, Kasey, and I were a little late, and we were wondering where the rest of the people were but they still made it long before the kids actually arrived in the room. When they finally came, they sat down and watched all of the puppet shows. First, the group that did a show about Carly went. I love this one because it’s a really cute story and I love the puppets and the amazing accents that Kristen and Kasie gave the characters. Then the group with the show about a rat that finds his place, and then my group went. This one is also very good. I think it had a very good moral and I enjoyed hearing it. After that, my group did the Tortoise and the Hare. I think our group was the only one that had technical difficulties, but we definitely had some and it was pretty awkward when Angela had to crawl over me. I think the kids really enjoyed watching the puppet shows. Then, we all went around showing the little children the puppets. It seemed like they liked all of the puppets a lot. Once the kids went back to class, we all went our separate ways. Some people came back to school, some went to Lava Java, and some went to get real breakfast. We all made it back to school safely and in time to check in with Mrs. Turner before second period.

Friday

Early Friday, Madison had to go to the library because there was an issue with the color printer. Once she got back to class, Mrs. Turner gave us the table of contents for our green folders. We also got our pot and discussed Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs. With Maslow’s ideas in mind, we watched the beginning of The Gridiron Gang. I loved the movie and did not want to go to second period, but I wanted to stay and finish it. It’s crazy to think of what some people go through in their everyday lives and this movie showed all of the difficulties that some people face.
