Today was a sad day because Mrs. Turner was not here with us. Heather and Anthony were out too. The class started with Jonathan read the next rule in Ron Clark’s book. Then Mr. Harris and Miss Tharpe led a class discussion about instructional activity and technique that worked well in a classroom. We made a list of advantages and disadvantages for lecture, questioning, groups, games, technology, worksheets, and textbooks. When we got to technology, Miss Christina Land said: “Technology is EVIL!” After that, we made fun announcements and shared weekend stories. Also, Erin showed us the drawing that she did for our T-shirt. It was so cool, I like mine the best so a big “Thank You” to Erin.
Tuesday, January 30 Another day without Mrs. Turner, “No Fun”! Heather came back today. We had the same substitute teacher from yesterday. She asked Michael to read the assignment to us again since he was the teacher yesterday. After Michael read the sheet, Mrs. Kasey couldn’t find the article that we supposed to read about “group work.” So some of us read the professional articles from Edutopia magazines, and some of us planned some random acts of kindness for contract points. Toward the end of the class, Ms. Kasey told us she found the articles, so we got into groups and started working on that which we had to create an activity that works with one of the cooperative learning strategies from the articles. We enjoyed the class but not as much as when we have Mrs. Turner with us.
Wednesday, January 31 Today, Mrs. Turner came back, yeah! We had a lot of things to cover today. Mrs. Turner went over some examples of structures for group work that we started yesterday. Mrs. Turner also asked us about which school and teacher we want for our field experience. Then we talked about Bloom’s taxonomy and how to develop test questions according to his taxonomy. Mrs. Turner wrapped up the class by talking briefly about how to format a lesson plan.
Thursday, February 1 Today was a great day because we didn’t have school. I got to sleep in and an extra day to study for my physics test. Friday, February 2 We had two hours delay today, so school started at 10:30a.m. I wish school would start at 10:30 everyday. Class started with Mrs. Turner handed out scholarship applications, and then we got into groups with people who had the book with them. The person had the book would read it aloud to others in the group and would asked them questions that he or she made based on Bloom’s Taxonomy about the book. Lastly, Mrs. Turner taught us how to format a lesson plan, she gave us a quick example of the lesson; how to make a banana split, she walked through how to form an objective, set, process, and questioning.
My favorite part of the week was learning about Bloom’s Taxonomy. I actually understood how teachers make our test questions. And the sad thing of the week was Mrs. Turner was out for two days, we didn’t have any fun until she was back.
Monday, February 5 Mrs. Turner asked some of us about school and teacher we want for our field experience. Heather presented her two weeks log. Mrs. Turner assigned e-mail buddies and announced plan of the week, which was focusing on lesson plan for Mrs. Smith’s class. We shared lesson plan with a partner and wrapped up the class by sharing some of our lesson plans as a class.
Tuesday, February 6 Mrs. Turner read the next Ron Clark’s rule. She gave out responses that she heard back from schools about the field experience. We worked on lesson plan for Mrs. Smith’s class rest of the period.
Wednesday, February 7 Today, we continued working on our lesson plans. Mrs. Turner talked about how to do process and assessment in detail. Then she assigned homework, the article about the assessment.
Thursday, February 8 Today, our lesson plans were due. Some of us worked on props that we will need for our lessons. Mr. Cumming interrupted our class by getting on the PA and talked nonstop until we raised $2000 for charity.
Friday, February 9 Today, we had breakfast at Chic-Fil-A with Mrs. Smith’s class. We had a lot of fun.
My favorite part of the week was the trip to Chic-Fil-A with Mrs. Smith’s class, it was so much fun and we should do that more often.
