I can't believe I didn't take any pictures! What is wrong with me!!! Anyway - Here are your questions to respond to.
1. List some specific things that you did during "Play Day" that fall into these different types of play:
- practice play
- symbolic play
- games with rules
- construction play
2. What did you observe during "Play Day" about:
- solitary independent play
- parallel play
- associative play
- cooperative play
3. What did you learn about yourself and/or your friends during "Play Day." What can you learn from playing? How could you incorporate what you did today or learned from today's activity into your pre-school model.
4. Please state your pre-school model plan: (group and project)
13 comments:
1. Practice Play- the random corner with the individualized play stuffs promoted practice play and fun over the more constructive art center and "store"
Symbolic Play- definately occurred in the "store and resteraunt" areas, we comunicated and gave eachother fake money for invisible food.
Games with rules- Twister and Candyland were amongst the games we had the option to play their rules were obeyed in order for the games to continue.
Constructions- the playdoh center and the lego center both promoted building and experimentation (Kate and I successfully created a lego bracelet).
2. Solitary Indepent Play- this didn't occur too often for our class Teacher cadets enjoy working with others. This type of play would likely occur in the random toy basket corner.
Parallel Play- this occured primarily in the playdoh and lego centers. Students would be doing a similar activity but not necessarily the same thing.
Associative play- occured in the art center where we got to play with fingerpaints, everyone shared the paints in order to make their own pictures.
Cooperative Group Play- This was primarily seen in the games and in the pretend centers. In Candyland Gayle and I worked together to beat Jesse.
3. I learned that play is still a vital part of our daily lives. I also learned that the favorite centers I had in K-5 are still applicable today. I learned that Gayle is good at Candyland and Kate is a formidable twister opponent and that we all need a play day every now and then. The play allowed us to learn without feeling bored of disintrested. In our pre-school there is definately going to be an art center.
4. I am working with Anthony on a poster preschool
1. I played restaurant; Bethany Anthony and I made a puzzle; I finger painted; I played with legos; I beat up Michael(haha just kidding); and I bought a teddy bear at the store.
2.Independent play was hard to do because once you started playing somewhere, other people came to join you. Parallel play ended up with Jessi, Gayle, and I getting into a fight with legos. Cooperative play resulted in the puzzle getting finished. Associative play was mostly when Stacey and I were painting together because we used the same materials but worked separately.
3.Play day was the most amazing thing I could've asked for to start my Monday morning (thanks Mrs. Turner!!).
I learned that Jessi is mean and likes control; Gayle isn't very good at building lightsabers; Anthony likes to talk in a high pitched voice; Bethany is good at puzzles; Kate got pushed around a lot; Michael has cooties; and Chrisitna is a good shopkeeper.
We could use different types of areas like we had today in our own preschool designs and today also helped us get the feel for what it was like to be back in preschool.
4. Kathryn and I are making a display board.
1. Practice Play: I would have to agree with Erin with the random corner with the basket full of single play things. I also think that it was fun to pretend we were preschoolers again, and got to act like little kids when it came to playing store or restaurant.
Symbolic Play: Again, I would agree with Erin because with "Store" and "Restaurant", we had to pretend to "eat" and buy stuff with fake money.
Games With Rules: Connect Four and Twister were two of the games I played that had rules, and I ended up having to ask Megan how to play Connect Four because I couldn't remember how to play.
Constructions: Play-dough, and legos were among the few things that we had to actually construct something. I had to help Megan find a few pieces for her lego construction.
2. Solitary Independent Play: It was very rare when anybody played by themselves. I did a little bit of jump rope and a little cup game. But we mostly just played together.
Parallel Play: Legos and playdough were probably the most similar ones.
Associative Play: This happened when we got to do finger painting (loads of fun!). Michael and I combined red and blue to make a purple paint. We ended up sharing it.
Cooperative Group Play: This would have to be with the puzzle. Alison, Anthony and I worked on the puzzle together, but yet acted like preschoolers the entire time (too fun!).
3. I really liked this activity, and it really showed how we can just play and be creative as well as use our imaginations to their fullest potential. I learned that Anthony can be very territorial (puzzle pieces). But it was still a lot of fun. I think that in the preschool we're designing, it should have some of these aspects in it.
4. I am working with Gayle, Jessie, and Jin Mei on a 3-d model of a preschool.
1. I'm not sure I engaged in any practice or symbolic play today. Playing store may be considered symbolic play, though no items were imagined or substituted for other items. One game with rules that I played was dominos. Most of what I did was construction. I made snowmen out of play dough, built a Lego tower, and lined up dominos.
2.About the only solitary independent play I observed today was Mrs. Turner sitting on the floor playing with a paddle ball (which was very amusing!). I engaged in parallel play when I played with play dough. Everyone at my table worked on something different with their own play dough. I engaged in associative play when Kate, Erin, Megan, and I played with Legos. We shared the Legos and talked some, but we all worked on different structures. For cooperative play, Michael and I worked on lining up and knocking down dominos together, and I played store with several other students.
3. During play day, I learned that I generally enjoy constructive play more than the other types and that I tend to prefer solitary or associative play, working by myself on my own activities with limited interaction with others. You can learn a lot about people and how they work best by observing them at play. This may be used in planning activites for students and helping them to learn by using a combination of types of play and of solitary and group work.
4. I am working with Megan and (I think) Heather on a 3D model.
1.-Practice Play-I enjoyed "practice play" at the resuarant section and jessi was my waiter! I also bought a stuffed teddy bear at Jessi's store!!! And I got to be a cashier later on too!
-symbolic play-I experienced "symbolic play" while at the restuarant and store sections because it symbolizes everyday communication with others.
-Games with rules-I enjoyed "games with rules" while playing domininos with Mrs. Turner(even though I think we were playing it wrong...!), playing four-in-a-row, and Candyland!
-Constructions-I definitely loved the "constructions" sections that I attended! I got to fingerpaint and made a cute little picture for JESSI!! and also I played around with playdoh!
2.-Solitary Independent Play-I didn't see much of this during the play day! Most of us were in groups and worked/played with others! And I agree with Erin, this type of play would most likely occur during the random toy basket corner.
-Parallel Play-I would say this occurred while playing with the playdoh.
-Associative Play-this occurred during the fingerpainting because everyone was using the same materials to make thier own picture!
-Cooperative Group Play-I think this was seen during the "games with rules" section because you had to follow the directions and cooperate with others.
3.I learned alot during PLAY DAY and had an awesome time! (thanks Mrs. Turner!)I learned what my classmates enjoyed and what they were good at! I learned there's several different ways to play, other than construction, games with rules, and pretend play! I think that Play Day allowed not just me but everyone else to learn by having fun and also help with communication, which is needed in pre-school surroundings. I think this would be good for pre-schoolers because it teaches them communication skills, how to share and cooperate with others, and they learn something new by having fun!
4. I am working with Jessi, Bethany, and Jin Mei on a 3-D model!! i can't wait to start!! its gonna be SOO FUN!!
oh and p.s. allison: I am VERY GOOD at building light sabers, I just didn't wanna show off my skillz in front of ya!!
and michael: that was very RUDE of u to make fun of me because i didn't know how to play four corners!!! soo mean!!
and Mrs. Turner....i had lots of fun playing dominios with ya! even if we weren't playing it right! lol
PLAY DAY was AWESOME!! It should definitely happen again!!
1.) Practice play, I enjoyed playing with finger paints since I haven't done that in FOREVER!!!
*Symbolic Play, I liked going over to the store and playing "store"...
*Games with Rules Play, I LOVED attempting to play Twister and playing connect 4 with everyone because I LOVE THAT GAME!!!
Constructions Play, I liked playing with the play dough and legos!(Lego my Ego)
2.) Independent play was not seen much, although Christina (with a Ch not a K) was CAUGHT PLAYING BY HERSELF WITH THE DOMINOS so I had to go play with her, lol;-)jk, I'm just after those GPA points;-) Parallel play took place in such things like play dough center and the toy centers, in that they were all playing but weren't necessarily playing and working together. Cooperative plat was showed in all of the games that were competitive, for example candy land.
3.) I learned that finger painting is the COOLEST THING ON THE PLANET and it should be a REQUIREMENT to finger paint at least ONE picture/week in EVERY CLASS!!! I can incorporate what we did today in my preschool model, because I forgot what they did in a preschool?lol;-)?? Oh ya and I learned girls have cooties especially Allison...
{Circle Circle Dot Dot Now I've got the Cootie Shot}
Oh ya and that I’m really sexy and a VERY GOOD FINGER PAINTER;-)expect this project to be nothing but finger painting, lol;-)
4.)I plan to do a power point by myself and as far as what I plan to do it on, it's supposed to be a secret?lol?
1. Practice play was a big one i had seen...we had the resturant and the store.
For constructions we made finger paint pictures had legos and played with playdoh
With games with rules there was connect 4 and twister
2. Solitary Independent i think the only person that did this was anthony and it was only for a few minutes.
Parallel play occured when we were on the blue blanket and playing with similar objects and talking but not playing together.
Associative play occured when we painted, we shared the paint but made seperate pictures.
3. I had so much fun acting like a kid....i learned that allison holds grudges and even if i was a kid gayle would be my best friend....she even made me a pretty picture lol
4. Me, gayle, jen mei(sry i prob buchared ur name), and jatana r working on a 3d model i think
1.Practice play: I played random corner by myself because Vivi didn't want to play with me.
Symbolic play: I played restaurant and store with viviana, michael, and Jatana and they said I was a bad cook.
Games w. rules: I played candyLand with viviana and jatana.
construction play: I played legos and playdough.
2. Solitary independent play:I noticed mrs. turner was playing legos by herself at one point.
Parallel play: I engaged in this play when i played with playdough.
Associative Play: this happened at art station where I made an artwork said"I Love U Mrs. Turner!"
cooperative play: Viviana, Jatana, Michael, and I played restaurant together.
3. I had a lot of fun during play day. I learned that I like cooperative play more than the others because I like to use my imaginations and play pretend. The play allowed me to realize what activities are the best for kids, and what kinds of play are educated to kids and I think that my 3d model preschool should include some of those activities.
4. I am working with Jessi, Gayle, and Bethany on a 3-D model.
1. Practice play occured when I played with the paddle ball and other toys by myself. There was really not particular purpose in mind. Symbolic play occured when playing store or restaurant. Also, there was symbolism in the fingerpainting-"of course that squigly is a person". Games with rules were the organized games like Connect Four, Twister, and Candy Land. Construction was legos and play dough.
2. Solitary play was when I was playing by myself--Mrs. Turner also did this. I played paddle ball. Parallel play was like with the play dough...we were all doing the same thing, but individually. Associative play was like when I played legos. We shared pieces but did not make one item together. Cooperative play was putting together a puzzle.
3. I learned(relearned) how much fun it is just to play. I got to be creative with play dough and learned to express myself. I learned what was important to others by what they painted or created with play dough. In the pre-school model, all of these types of play should be represented. They are all necessary to growth and development of children.
4. Heather, Christina, and I are building a 3-D model.
1. Practice Play - the random time of taking a nap in the lego corner. That was fun.
Symbolic play - me doing a little shopping but couldn't buy any thing cause they didn't take debit.
Games with rules playing candy land was so much fun.
Constructions - Puzzles and Play doh, and legos.
2. Most of the stuff I did was with people I was never alone and had fun to be a kid again. We need to do it again.
3. Play is important because we get to both get some stress out and but get our imagination again because we usually lose it as adults.
4. I am working with Erin on the poster.
P.S. I learned that Jon is a mean person and made a Confereate flag out of play doh, Allison has coopies and Mrs. Turner was upset cause she was losing in Candy Land.
1. Practice Play- I didnt make it over to the random corner of things.
Symbolic Play- was the store and restaurant, we pretended to be store owners and waiters and customers.
Games with rules- I played twister! Candyland and connect four were also avaiable to play.
Contructions- the legos and cars center where erin and i constructed a bracelet and megan made a pretty house.
2. Solitary Independant Play- didnt occur much because we are all way too social, mrs. turner tried to be independant but we didnt get the point.
Parallel Play-like at the playdough center, we were all working on different projects but using same playdough, execpt jon kept messing mine up cause he was jealous.
Associative Play-the finger painting station, i didnt make it over there but it would be sharing the finger paints to make seperate pictures
Cooperative Play-the games like Candyland, Twister and Connect Four. Everyone played together on the same thing and worked together sometimes.
3. I learned that we are all still kids at heart. When playing you can teach yourself many things and learn from other people you play with. Play Days should be more often because it lets kids wind down and become more receptive to learning.
4. Allison and I are doing a poster.
Excellent Reactions to Play Day! I enjoyed reading all of them!
1. Practice Play - The corner with the random playthings, all thrown together, was definitely just a place to have fun by yourself, or with others. There was no real objective to any of the things there.
Symbolic Play - The store/restaurant tables were symbolic play. We all pretended to buy things, which (as children) would encourage the development of certain skills.
Games with Rules - Candyland. It had certain rules you had to follow in order to win.
Construction - The area with the Legos and Play-Doh. We got to build our own things (like a red, doughy snowman, or small lego statues), and were encouraged to be as creative as possible, which is great for kids.
2. Solitary independent play - This didn't happen often. Even when people sat on their own, others approached them to keep them involved. The random corner would be best for solitary play, as other things are more fun with other kids.
Parallel Play - In the Play-Doh center and Lego center. We worked with similar materials, but on completely different things in the same area.
Associative Play - I saw this most when Allison and I painted. We used the same materials, but painted completely different things.
Cooperative Play - Jon and I worked together at Twister, working towards the same goal: Not falling down before Jessi.
3. Play is still very important, as it relieves stress and allows for a relaxation of the mind. Kids really need this time, as they're still learning the basics, and shouldn't be forced to work continuously. In my project, the kids will be given ample time to play.
4. Viviana and I are working together to complete a Pre-School model on a poster.
