Today in class, everyone brought back popped popcorn and worked together to make “Witches Hands” for all of the teachers at Mauldin High for a fun Halloween treat! Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to enjoy making the “Witches Hands” because I had a doctor’s appointment (and NO Jon, I was NOT skipping!!). However, I was told that everyone stayed busy and had fun!! With everyone working hard, staying focused and even coming back during second period, we were able to finish making the treats for EVERY teacher! And the treats were ready to be passed out tomorrow for Halloween!

Directions for making “Witches Hands”:

buy gloves
buy popcorn
buy spider rings
pop popcorn
put popcorn inside gloves
tie the end of the gloves
place spider ring on the “ring finger”

!! H-A-P-P-Y H-A-L-L-O-W-E-E-N !!

Today in class, we all paired ourselves up to deliver the “Witches Hands” to a list of teachers we were given by Mrs. Turner. My partner was Jessi!! We seemed to have mostly the math department. As Jessi and I handed out the treats, I noticed that the teachers really appreciated the thoughtfulness of this simple treat and that made me happy. Jessi and I also ran into students in the classroom who would say that they were “teachers” and wanted a “Witch Hand” (which after awhile got pretty annoying!). All of the teachers received a treat, except the ones that were not in their rooms, which would receive theirs via their mailboxes. After the class finished delivering the “Witches Hands”, we went to the Wax Museum to watch the talented Speech and Debate students perform and imitate a famous person. Anthony Buffis was one among these talented students who acted out for the school. He did an awesome job!!!! Good job Anthony!

Today, our class had a discussion about Erikson and his eight stages of psychosocial development. His psychosocial development theory explains how a person interacts with the world and those around him/her. We read over all of the stages and gave examples and/or stories that we had that would classify under each stage. We ended the discussion of Erikson and moved on to a Russian psychologist by the name of Lev Vygotsky (a.k.a-“that guy”). Vygotsky conducted that the social cognitive development is based on culture and that culture is the primary determinate in learning. After reading what Vygotsky had to say, Mrs. Turner had the class get into groups of four. She passed out some play-do and went over the instructions for this activity. The instructions were to construct something out of play-do within our groups. Sounds easy right? Well, that wasn’t all of it! We had to construct something within our groups BUT we could NOT talk to anyone about how or what to do. All we could do was grunt and use hand motions! This is lots of fun and humorous! The group I was in included Kate, Allie, and Jessi! Our group so won, but then Mrs. Turner said we didn’t because we used the ceiling to support our tall “thing” that we built!!! The group that ended up winning included Stacey, Viviana, Jon, and Jatana! Congrats!! Even though my group should have been the winners! hahaha… jk.

And we had homework that night which was to come up with our own examples for Erikson’s eight stages!

Today in class, we talked more about yesterday’s activity and the use of language! We discussed how language is important and how it is used other than by speaking. Mrs. Turner than gave us all an index card for us to write a specific description of a monster! As we were busy describing our monster, Mrs. Turner handed out computer paper and crayons(uh-oh…not drawing!! Aaghh). She collected our index cards and passed them out to the students. Our instructions were to draw a monster based on the person’s description. The monster description that I received was from Jatana! When we all finished drawing their monsters, we held it up for them to see if that’s what they pictured! Surprising there was a lot of “yes’s”. However, when it came to my drawing of Jatana’s monster…well it didn’t really turn out too well! It was not was she pictured!

Today was “Ketchup Day” with fries!!(Statement from Christina!) Basically, today the class worked on any make-up work that needed to be done, our lifeline projects due the following Monday, and/or our 5 articles due at the end of the 9 weeks. Also, Jon gave his weekly log presentation to the class. We also quickly mentioned ideas for our class t-shirt that Erin plans to make for us! I am very excited for our t-shirt!! It’s going to be awesome! And today Anthony collected the five dollars for our party we are throwing for Mrs. Turner Monday!! It’s her Birthday!! We have been successful in keeping it a secret! Yay for us!!
