Kelsie's Second Week: My second week of field experience was great! The most fun was the whole day I spent with the kindergarten class. I spent St. Patrick's Day with them. We did different types of activities. One was doing math with Lucky Charms. Another was making a snack called Leprechaun Hats. I had so much fun helping them with their texture flowers. This was to help them with different types of textures. The best time in Coach Sissel's class was Wednesday and Friday where I got to walk around the room and help the students with a worksheet.
ReplyDeleteI haven't really had a worst experience yet. I guess the only thing would be how wild the kids can act in Mrs. Dyar's class, but that's kids.
Second Week
ReplyDeleteThis past week went pretty good.
If I had a worst experience it was on Monday when I did the bell ringer for the first time. I was nervous because I hadn't even really talked to the class that much.
My best experience happened Friday. Earlier in the week I had graded some of my classes quizzes. The grades weren't very good, but yesterday I started grading the quiz they took that morning and got about half way through before the bell. The lowest grade I had gotten at that time was a 70! I was really happy that the grades had gone up so much. I wasn't even teaching them and it still made me feel good.
I'm glad you had another good week Kelsie! What was the Leprechaun Hats thing?
My Second Week:
ReplyDeleteBest Experience: I was helping the students with their morning worksheet and one of the students, who has to sit by himself because he has focusing problems, called me over and asked me to help him. I was really excited because I was glad he asked for my help!
Worst Experience:
On Friday, I had to sharpen pencils until it got overheated. It was really boring, but at least their pencils are ready to use now!
Kristen your story about the Hoover Dam picture with Mrs. Ward was so funny. I enjoyed reading your funniest experience from last week.. Hope your second week was just as much fun!
ReplyDeleteKelsie
My Best Experience: This week I had to help a student in my class that's from Egypt. He has trouble reading in English so I sat out in the hall and read the pages in the book to him. He seemed to understand most of what I was saying. I really enjoyed working one on one with him.
ReplyDeleteWorst Experience: My worst experience this week was probably that I didn't get to do a whole lot other than grade papers. The were still working on their Disease Presentations and PASS review. Next week should be better though :)
Karli: Sharpening pencils doesnt sound like much fun!!! I would get bored with that really quickly
Abbey’s Second Week of Field Experience:
ReplyDeleteBest Experience:
I had a lot of good experiences this week. I began doing calendar math this week. Ms. Quinn has a special education student come into her class for calendar math and related arts. He is quiet most of the time and doesn’t really interact with the other students very much. On Thursday he answered the analogy question and got the answer correct! Ms. Quinn said that was the first time all year he has wanted to answer a question. It was also one of the few questions he has gotten right. I was so happy for and proud of him! All the students were happy for him too! They all wanted to give him a high five!! It was really cute!! That was probably my best experience this week.
Worst Experience:
I really did not have any bad experiences this week. The worst thing I can think of was seeing a student so frustrated during a test. The class was taking the Unit 7 Reading and Writing test. The students had to read a story and answer questions through out the reading. There is a lot of writing involved in this test. Since he is not a very good reader Ms. Quinn asked me to read him the story and questions, but obviously I couldn’t help him answer any of the questions. The student is really struggling in reading and writing. He was so frustrated with himself for not knowing the answer. If he did know the answer he didn’t know how to spell most of the words. He knew that I couldn’t help him spell either. He was so frustrated at one point he almost cried. I felt so bad that he was so frustrated with himself.
Karli~
I’m happy that one of your students wanted your help! I love when one of my kids wants me to help them!
Week two was pretty good! I spent the first half of the week doing the folders and attendance again. Thursday and Friday, however, I started doing more. Thursday I was able to read a book to them and talk to them about different measurements, like how many cups are in a pint and how many pints are in a quart. Friday I got to take a few of them into a separate room and help them with their reading skills.
ReplyDeleteThere still hasn't been to bad of an experience yet, except when they start acting up and getting loud.
Abbey, I think it's great how that little boy finally wanted to answer and question and got it right! That's awesome!
Mackenzie's second week: My second week of field experience was so great. I got to do so much in the classroom this past week. My best experience was when I got to introduce Thursday's lesson with bellwork. I got to "teach" in a sense and interact with the kids and start to get to know them. I didn't have a worst experience this week which was great. I am looking forward to another week at Mauldin Middle!
ReplyDeleteLauren--
ReplyDeleteI totally understand about being bored with PASS tesing! We'll get through it :)
-Mackenzie
Hannah's Second Week:
ReplyDeleteBest Experience: My best experience this week was finally being able to do circle time. I got to do it on Wednesday and Thursday and it was great to be able to do something besides just sit there. I also got to work one-on-one with a few students, which I really enjoyed.
Worst Experience: I didn't really have a worst experience this week, but laminating things and using the die-cut machine got pretty boring.
Abbey-
ReplyDeleteI think it is so cool that the little boy finally wanted to answer a question and got it right! I would be so proud!!!
My Best Experience: I had two very enjoyable things happen this week. The first was getting called down in the hallway by Aijalon. I really enjoyed seeing his genuine excitement in getting to walk with a TEENAGER down to class. The other was getting to do Calendar Math for the first time. I loved interacting with the class as a whole and getting to see what it was like to really and teach and lead a class. They were so polite when I did something wrong..They raised their hand and politely told me the correct way to do it. :) I look forward to getting to practice that in the future!
ReplyDeleteMy Worst Experience: The worst thing this week was watching the aid taking over the class. As Mrs. West had to step out, the aid's lack of charisma with the students was evident. Because I had not learned protocol with Calendar Math, I couldn't do the job. The class's morale dropped considerably and I felt bad for them. :(
Otherwise...A wonderful week!!
Karli-
ReplyDeleteSharpening pencils is almost as fun as watching grass grow. I'm glad you got to do that. :) I hope you get some different experience in this week!
-Caroline
Brittney B's second week:
ReplyDeleteMy second week was so much fun! My best experience was when i went into the 1st grade special education class and helped joshua (he has cerebral palsy) do his writing. his teachers said he did better today then he had ever done! It was so exciting! My worst experience was when i was running late and i missed playing with the promethean board with Kamdyn. But i cannot wait for next week!
BEST::We did a st. patty's day lab and made green oobleck---my idea and my teacher wanted to use it! i got pretty excited.
ReplyDeleteWORST::We did another lab friday, and i didnt really help much, but it was still fun...i dont really have bad experiences!
Karli, im so glad youre being put to good use by sharpening pencils. haha just kidding, but thats awesome about the little boy i remember you telling me about him!
Sorry I'm always so late on this! p(>.<)q And Mrs. Turner ~ I don't remember if I had told you about All-State, but I'm sorry if I didn't and I can assure you that I definately told Mrs. Osteen.
ReplyDeleteBest: I started bonding with the students. Although, the closest to me is this girl in Homeroom who I won't get to teach, but that's still cool with me <3
Another interesting moment: walked into class on St. Pat's and Mrs. Osteen and I looked the same xD Straightened dark hair, black pants and a black blazer over a green blouse o_o;; I'll put pictures up later this week when I have time.
Worst: I HAD TO MISS FRIDAY! D= Although I don't regret going to SC All-State, that's valuable time I can be using. But tomorrow I get to help out with poetry.
Brittney! Your "best" is so touching. That's so great that you were able to help them.
Brittany-
ReplyDeletethats so cool you made oobleck!!! lets make some with our all the teacher cadets!!!!
Best Experience- On Friday I was given a really interesting task to do for Mrs. Ward. I researched photos, maps, political cartoons, etc. about the Cold War. I encountered some really neat websites! I enjoyed looking through all of the cartoons on the Cold War. This week I am going to teach Mrs. Ward to use here Promethian board, and we are going to create an ActiveStudio powerpoint.
ReplyDeleteWorst Experience- I guess the worst thing that happened was grading journals. It is really monotonous work. I have sympathy for Mrs. Ward on that one!
This week went alright for me. I had a hard time with everyone's names and I felt really bad when I got someone's name wrong. Also, the student's would begin talking when Mrs. Ellis left the room and I wasn't sure if they were allowed to talk when they were done with their morning work. So I would tell them to quiet down and do their work but they continued to talk and I didn't really feel in control.
ReplyDeleteMy best experience this week was getting to take over the role of lunch and the calender everyday. The students seemed to really enjoy me being up there doing the calender with them and they responded really well. The only thing that went wrong with the calender this week is I felt like I went way too fast with it the first time I did it. But, you only learn from your mistakes.
